An alcohol stove is a stove that uses alcohol as it's fuel source. They are most commonly used in the ultralight backpacking and thru-hiking communities as the go-to minimalist and compact stove. They weigh less than a deck of cards, have no moving parts to break and use a low-cost fuel you can find in almost all resupply points. If you are a Do-It-Yourself-er, you can easily even make one at home.
Unlike traditional backpacking stoves that use gas or liquid fuel, the alcohol stove uses readily-available alcohol sources such as methanol, denatured alcohol or ethanol. Usually, they are small stoves crafted out of thin metal and have a small basin or reservoir to hold a few ounces of the liquid fuel. The designs vary, however, the fuel chamber is commonly lined by a series of burner holes that help spread the flame around the edge of the stove for a more even heat distribution. These stoves usually sit on the ground and need a stand to suspend the pot above the flame.

Re: Alcohol Stove
Alcohol Stoves work on vapor. So denatured 90% or Lighter Fluid will vaporise and the vapors are what is lit.
Some different types of home-made alcohol stoves are tuna-can, soft-drink alcohol stove. I made a few before, following these simple tutorials.

5yrs ago i discovered this enhanced version (capillary hoop innovated by the Japanese) which i have made quite a number of them and find them burning more efficiently. Furthermore these are also very compact and easy to fabricate:

Re: Alcohol Stove
Something very erroneous ominous to this video/content, author shouldn't even suggest using the highly toxic liquid: Methanol (wood alcohol). Confirmed its lethal carcinogenic.

Re: Alcohol Stove
I would avoid anything containing Methanol component, refer to hazard outlined here:
